The curriculum is designed around the student.
Students are individuals with different talents, levels, and needs. This is why we design lessons based on the skills, English level, and requirements of each student. Even students in the same form/year may have noticeably different lessons based on their English strengths and weaknesses. Students are unique; therefore, lessons should be unique. Students and parents are encouraged to discuss any requirements and concerns with us at any time to assist us in designing the very best lessons possible.
We focus on speaking, pronunciation, natural phonics, grammar, reading, writing, removing Chinglish, building confidence, and developing an overall interest in English. By building a solid English foundation from a young age, students excel in their exams including the HKDSE. Just as important, our long-term students become so proficient in communicating in English that many of them have been mistaken for native English speakers.
Most students are required to complete a writing assignment at home each week. This writing will be corrected in the student’s coming lesson so that he/she can better understand and learn from his/her mistakes.
Many students will have a few minutes of loud reading each lesson to strengthen their abilities and interest in reading. Oral reading is also a fantastic activity for students to learn of and fix pronunciation mistakes.
Speaking activities are commonly used with most students. They are designed to give students the practice they need to develop their speaking and listening while also improving pronunciation, intonation, grammar, and confidence.
Most students will use grammar exercises and drills during their lessons corresponding to their school work or other needs. We use dozens of drills and games, mostly in-house developed, to help students master the grammar they are learning in school. Students are also invited to ask questions about their test errors, exam mistakes, and schoolwork.
Lessons are 60 minutes.
All of our lessons are one hour, but even young and overactive students never get bored. It is common that our new students are surprised when their one-hour lesson is over because of how engaging our lessons are. Time flies when you are having fun.
Lessons are challenging, fun, and exciting.
If you want someone to learn something, you need to keep them interested. There are numerous studies indicating that people learn much better when they are excited and having fun. Think back to a time in your life when you had an exciting experience. Notice how you can recall that experience far better than something that was uninteresting that happened just yesterday. We learn more effectively when we are experiencing strong emotions. This is why we focus on creating lessons that are exciting, fast-paced, and engaging to ensure that our students learn and practice a lot in every lesson.
To further explain, I will use proofreading as an example. Most students find proofreading extremely boring. However, if you change proofreading into a challenging game where students’ scores are recorded and compared to previous scores, both interest and concentration significantly improve.
Very small classes are best for you.
Having a lot of students in a language lesson is not good for anyone except for the teaching centre. The centre makes a lot of money and the students usually learn very little. We never have large classes at Franjus because we know they are ineffective. All lessons have just 1 or 2 students.
Two-student lessons are usually arranged by the students and or their parents. We can try to find you a partner, but it is best that you find your own friend or classmate as a partner. When looking for a partner, remember that his/her English level needs to be similar to yours.
All students speak a lot during lessons.
One of the most important steps a student needs to take in order to learn a new language is to speak it. Unfortunately, too many schools and teaching centres seem to believe that students can master English by rarely speaking it which is highly unlikely.
We have cleverly designed many speaking and grammar activities that no other education centre has. They have been designed to accelerate students’ improvement, confidence, skills, grammar, and vocabulary all while speaking in English. In some of these activities, students speak hundreds of words in complete sentences with the reaction speed of a native English speaker in just a few minutes.
We have a free no obligation Interview for you.
If you are interested in learning English and would like to know more about how we teach and want to meet our teachers, you may come for an interview. All of our interviews are free of charge and you will never be pressured into enrolling. We firmly believe that you need to decide on your own without being hard sold. This is not only because it is the right way to treat people, but also because we are building a long-term relationship built on trust and mutual respect. Furthermore, we are never short of students with over 90% of our new students coming from referrals.
Please note that we only accept students who are interested in learning on a long-term basis.
