Messages to Students

A MESSAGE FOR PRIMARY STUDENTS

Hello primary students! You are going to have so much fun learning English with us. Do you know that you learn much better and faster when you are excited and having fun? This is why we make your lessons exciting and interesting through the use of games that we have designed just for you.

English is an amazing way for you to see and enjoy of the world. Together, we are going to help you see more of the world in exciting and interesting ways.

We are also going to help you with your school work, tests, and exams, but as you get better in English, you will find that your school work becomes a lot easier! One way we are going to help you improve is through reading our cool and crazy books. We have hundreds of them for you to enjoy!

Remember to bring a lot of energy and excitement to your lessons because you are going to need it!

A MESSAGE FOR LOWER SECONDARY STUDENTS

Gone are the good old days of primary school. You are growing up and it will not be that long before you will be preparing for the DSE. As scary as that can be, there are things that you can do now that will greatly improve your English DSE results.

First and most importantly, you need to build up a reading habit. Reading will improve almost every part of your English. Read anything and everything that interests you. If you are interested in makeup, read books about applying makeup, if you are interested in UFOs and aliens then read books about them. What you read should match who you are so you can both enjoy and benefit from it.

A second thing that you need to do to improve your English is to listen to native English speakers. They are everywhere in the digital world including on television, YouTube, the radio, Instagram, Netflix, and in films. If you listen to native English speakers often, you will improve your pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and listening as well as remove the Chinglish from your English.

A third thing you should be doing is writing. Challenge yourself by writing creative and interesting stories on topics that you are interested in. The best writers always put their personality into their writing.

The last thing I ask of you is to speak as much English as you can. In your lessons, you will speak a lot, but one hour a week is not enough. Many of my students talk to their friends in English and you can do this too.

A MESSAGE FOR UPPER SECONDARY STUDENTS

I am pleased to be instructing you as you prepare for the DSE. Never forget that it is creeping up on you, and it will not be long before it is staring you in the face! Don’t panic! Start preparing now! English is one of the subjects that you can prepare for years in advance.

Write for me regularly and carefully analyse the sample essays and letters that I give you. Doing these two things will vastly improve your score.

Use English as much as you can when you are watching programmes, playing games, and listening to music. English is one of the few DSE subjects that you can partially prepare for by doing non-academic, leisure activities.

Find time to read what you enjoy. Reading almost anything you love will help you elevate your English to the next level. “A book well read is worth ten sitting on the shelf collecting dust.” – Justin Saley

I believe in you, and you need to believe in yourself too. Sometimes your school teacher may say that you are not ready for the DSE, but don’t let him or her discourage you. The truth is almost no one is completely ready for the DSE. Together, we can tackle it.

A MESSAGE FOR FORMER STUDENTS

Over the past twenty plus years, Francesca and I have been blessed with the opportunity of educating so many capable and bright young people. There have been challenges along the way, but many more wonderful successes and memories. It brings me great pleasure to have this opportunity to express my heartfelt feelings of how proud we are of you as you go out into the world and chase your dreams. Some of you have already made your dreams come true, while others are still working on them. If you are struggling, remember that life is sometimes difficult, but there is always a way forward. No matter what difficulties you are encountering, you can find the strength to overcome them. Just keep moving forward.

Over the years, we have enjoyed meeting several of you again. It is always wonderful to see you again and reminisce about the good old times and learn about your successes in life since we last met. Now that Covid is less of a concern, we plan to continue meeting up with many of you. If you would like to get together, feel free to send us a WhatsApp message. We are always happy to hear from you. And even if we never meet again, we will always remember you, and we wish you luck as you travel through your life.

Some of you may remember that I enjoy creating random quotes. So, I would like to leave you with a few.

“We have created lights to brighten our homes so that we can read to brighten our minds.” – Justin Saley
